{{.Beach House 2015.}}

This year has been a rocky one in my life. There were some not so good things, but there was a lot of time to be introspective, and time to really push myself. At the beginning of the summer, I made a promise to myself to visit the ocean more. After a cloudy afternoon, a sunset with some friends, and a sunrise with my second shooter, I took my Love, my Mini Human, and her cousin, Nephew 1 to Sandy Point. It’s probably going to be the last time we visit until next year, so it was a little bittersweet.

Someone has been building driftwood structures. We found them back when we went to the beach the first time this summer in July. This particular one was not yet built, but it was started by the time I went back the second time. The third time, it was pretty sturdy looking. This last time though, it was a little home for us for the day. It was amazing.

I’ve always felt the happiest at the side of the ocean. Hearing waves crashing and seabirds calling out, is music to my ears.  Getting to share it with people I love makes it even better. Knowing that it’s a national wildlife refuge makes it one of my favorite places I’ve ever been.

{{.Chicken Soup – It’s that time of year again.}}

So, it’s that time of year again. As the summer ends, school begins. School is where all the mini humans congregate to learn, socialize, and spread germs.  It’s been about 3 weeks, and my mini human is sick already. She stayed home today because she was feeling under the weather, so while she spent a big part of the day snuggled in bed, I made soup.

Now, my family will tell you, I’m not a shining star in the kitchen. To be honest, it’s usually my Love, my Gram, or my Sis that cook in our house. I have a few good (easy) recipes though, and I thought I’d share. This is my super simple chicken soup. It’s quick to prepare, and easy to cook. My mini human loves it, and when I make it, she always have more helpings than usual. I serve it with pineapple juice and ginger ale, though, not mixed together. 😉

For a soup pot, I use 2 regular sized boxes of chicken broth, about 2 lbs of whatever boneless skinless chicken is on sale, a small bag of frozen veggies, and a small bag of white potatoes. The chicken gets chopped in about 1/2″ chunks and tossed in the pot with 2 boxes of chicken broth & 1 box filled with water. I put that on medium to cook the chicken a bit while I chop the potatoes. When the potatoes are done, I turn the heat down to medium low, and add the potatoes and frozen veggies (usually the carrot and pea mix), and potatoes. I cover it, and leave it alone for about an hour. Then, serve and season to taste. I like a pinch of salt, and my Love likes a sprinkle of pepper. Enjoy!

{{.Then vs Now – 001.}}

The only person you have to be better than, is the person you were yesterday.

I’m going to start a new project, called “Then VS Now”. Every week, I’ll go into my archives and grab a picture I took years ago (at least 5), and I’ll post it, side by side to show my own personal growth.

I remember a really painful moment a few years back, when I mentioned to someone that I would do their pictures for them for free if I could put them in my portfolio. They told me they wanted a real photographer to do it. Ouch. Years later though, I see the work I did then, and I’m glad they went with a pro. About 70,000 images later, I now feel I could confidently shoot their pictures, and I know I would give them frame-worthy shots.

Sometimes though, my mind wanders back to that conversation, and I feel like, at any moment, everyone will see that there is someone out there better than I am. (There is, it’s ok, that’s why we all keep growing.) I’m hoping that this project will help me to remember that I *am* growing, and I’m always getting better. Maybe that shot didn’t come out exactly the way I wanted to, so let’s figure out how to fix it.

I hope that by sharing this project with you, I can help you realize that you’re a perfectly imperfect human being too. True life is better than the fairy tale, and it is beautiful. Even if I don’t capture it for you, you should capture it for yourself.

{{.Kittens. August 2015.}}

While at a birthday party for Nephew 6, my sisters mom-in-law tells us about how a pregnant kitty cat decided to wander into her yard, and take up residence. The kittens are super cute, and all have been promised to good loving homes. I couldn’t help myself though. Just look at these little balls of fur!!!

{{.Let’s Get Local – Breakfast at Stephanie’s – South Grafton, MA.}}

I’m not much of a human being before I’ve had my coffee. In fact, I’ve overheard my mini human telling her cousins that “My mommy is a bear before she’s had her coffee”! So, one day a few months back, I wandered into the cute little breakfast place that is right around the corner from my house. Oh. My. Yum!! No only is their breakfast delicious, and their staff friendly and welcoming, BUT, they have GREAT coffee too! A little confession, I’ve always had this hope that one day I would be a “regular” at a breakfast place, and that I would have a “usual”. A few weeks ago, I had that wonderful moment where we walked in, and my usual coffee order was brought over BEFORE I ordered!! It was so exciting! You can check out their facebook page here, and their gallery in the “Let’s Get Local” area of my website here.

{{.Let’s Get Local – TRENDZ – Northbridge, MA.}}

I just *love* a good consignment shop. I love searching through racks of clothes just full of potential. I’m also one of the people just waiting for bell bottoms to come back around, but I can usually find something I like if I just check around a little. TRENDZ is a really great little space on the side of rt122 in Northbridge MA. They have a great selection of clothes for teen girls and women. Check out their facebook page here, or their entire gallery in the “Let’s Get Local” section of my website here.

{{.Shooting Through Lace.}}

A couple nights ago, after my mini human had gone to bed with our kitty cat, Miss Mia, I realized I had not taken a shot for my project 365. I was looking around my room (again) for some last minute inspiration, when I remembered a tutorial I had read recently about shooting through things from the I Heart Faces community.

A-ha! Inspiration! I sometimes shoot through things like trees and bushes, and once took a couple shots through the book cass at a local library. This time, however, I used a piece of peach lace that I’ve kind of been obsessing over lately. Here’s my collage. I had a lot of fun, and I really like the soft romantic feel of the lighting.

{{.Brothers in the Backyard.}}

Golden hour is typically the hour (or two) leading up to sunset. It’s particularly appealing because the sun is closer to the horizon, making it’s light softer and more romantic while giving everything a beautiful golden glow.
What was going to be a golden hour baby shoot turned into a golden hour brother shoot. I just adore these two mini humans. They’re my nephews, Nephew 2 & Nephew 6.  Nephew 6 is just starting to walk. He’s still a little unsure of taking more than a handful of steps, but I feel certain that he’ll be running before we know it!
